Enriching music in worship

across the Diocese of

St Edmundsbury and Ipswich

Christmas is perhaps the church's best opportunity in the year for mission. It's the one occasion when people who don't usually come to church are most likley to attend.

It's also often a great opportunity to do something a little more musically adventuorous than is possible during the other weeks of the year, bringing in extra musicians and singers to create something special.

But what to sing? Those once-a-year visitors will want the traditional carols, but the singers and musicians might welcome a change.

This Resource Sheet gives four pages of ideas for choosing material that's a little different - from new words to familiar tunes, to contemporary carols, worship songs, choral music and solos. Most of the items are selected with thought for churches with limited numbers of musicians and singers, and with limited rehearsal time.

The booklet version can be printed on A3 or A4. We recommend A3 for legibility.

If printing the booklet version, set page scaling to 100% for A3, or 71% for A4, and remember to select Short-Edge Binding in your print options.

Although the sheet uses colour, it also prints well in black and white.
